thoughts on this project so far

well, i can tell that i definitely have good days and bad days! but i feel like the general trend is toward improvement, so i'm going to keep plugging along.

i've also noticed that scanning in the drawings is helping more than just with accountability. i can see much more quickly on the screen what's wrong with a drawing. i think it's a combination of the image being smaller and lower resolution (similar to squinting at a piece to get the overall impression) and the screen making it easier to view the drawings dispassionately and objectively.

there are so many things that i need to work on, and (perhaps obviously, in hindsight) i tend to do the same things wrong almost every time. for instance, i've noticed i have trouble judging how long the nose should be. it always looks too short on paper, but i scan in it and it's a mile long! this is tied into the many other problems with width and proportion in the rest of the face. but drawing every day is helping to hone my observation skills and build a more knowledgeable eye, and also to train my hand to more consistently and reliably render what i see.

thanks so much for your comments and support!
